Favorite Oklahoma Wildflowers

Sensitive Briar has a lot of pizazz for a wildflower. Its blooms look like little pink pompoms 

dipped in yellow glitter.

The stems of sensitive briar are covered
with sharp prickles that can be pretty painful. This is why they were once called "Devil's Shoestrings"
by rural children who had experience with them.

There are many varieties of Coreopsis that bloom profusely in the prairie.

 

Large-flowered Coreopsis

Common Cinquefoil  above is a creamy butter color.

Below is the Indian Paintbrush,  an easily identified wildflower.

 

This Tube Beard Tongue is a Foxglove, a member of the Snapdragon family.
